Philippine Society of Echocardiography - Manila, Philippines

The Philippine Society of Echocardiography has grown by leaps and bounds since the time of its inception in 1990. From its humble beginnings of 35 members, passionate in learning and sharing their knowledge of the subspecialty, it has swelled to its present membership of over 500 technicians and physicians all over the country. The brainchild of Dr. Homobono B. Calleja, considered as the Father of Philippine Echocardiography, Dr. Calleja served as its president, with Dr. Adolfo Bellosillo as vice president, Dr. Raul D. Jara as secretary and Dr. Marcelo Esguerra as treasurer. Dr. Romeo J. Santos, Dr. Eleonor Lopez and Emelyn Rivera sat as the board of directors for the fledging society. Subsequently, Drs. presidents. Working in close coordination with the Philippine Heart Association’s program for Continuing Medical Education, the society has been gathering students of echocardiography for inter-hospital echo conferences every other month. This conference were not limited to the National Capital Region but has reached even the provinces of Visayas and Mindanao. Regular lecture series and competency workshops for echo technologists have likewise been started.
