The Barcino Story

A famed poet once said, “Wine is bottled poetry.” Then like good wine, Barcino is produced through hard work and passion. And much like good poetry, its story gets better as it is told…

The story begins in 2004 when a quaint deli bar was born in Ortigas. It was named Barcino Gourmet, Latin for the Catalan capital, Barcelona. It started out with just a very small bar, a table, some finely selected wines, sundried cheeses, and Spanish deli. Each year it grew to be an enjoyable place to eat, drink, and have fun with family and friends. In 2006, it became a full blown tapas wine bar showcasing everything Spanish from a gastronomic range of authentic Spanish flavours to carefully selected wines which are made to be easy on the pocket.

After just a couple of years, Barcino put up a branch in Fort Bonifacio in 2008. Continuing its romance with the Filipinos, Barcino kept to its ideal of giving guests the perfect ambiance complete with Spanish music, good service and most especially reasonably priced quality wines.

The following year, Barcino launched another branch in Greenbelt 5. It is a charming little deli shop where you can grab a quick lunch or stay for long chats with friends over delightful wines and cheeses.

Then in 2010, Barcino breathed life into its most ambitious endeavour, the branch in Greenbelt 2. Good service, excellent food, an impressive wine range, the talents of the staff, and adaptability and innovations of the company, contributed to the success of this bold venture.

The fifth branch was opened in Rockwell in 2011. Only a year after, it is now a fixture in the itinerary of Manila’s wine drinking crowd. It persists to espouse Barcino’s years-old philosophy of giving its customers the best value for their money.

This year, Barcino has embarked on another new adventure with its much anticipated branch in Alabang Town Center. It was launched last March 2012 and it has already brought a new life to the quiet sub-urban neighbourhood, south of the metro.

Barcino has truly come a long way from being a nondescript haunt in Ortigas. Now, it is known to just about anyone looking for a great time—from the who’s who of society to laid back yuppies and a growing number of wine lovers. In fact, Barcino in all likelihood has jumpstarted the bandwagon of wine drinking in Metro Manila.

With a branch opened almost every year since it was established, it is safe to say the Barcino is here to stay for a long time. And as another saying goes, “a bottle of wine begs to be shared”, so join us as we continue to write our story of becoming the best wine-restaurant in the Philippines.
