Municipality of Buguias, Benguet - Philippines

Buguias is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Benguet, Philippines. According to the latest census, it has a population of 34,507 people in 6,312 households. The name of the municipality came from the word Bogey-yas, a popular Igorot settlement during the pre-Spanish time. The spelling was modernized and spelled as Buguias" by Spanish authorities. Just like Bogey-yas, other names such as Loo, Tucucan, Tinoc, Buguias, Abatan, Ambuse (now Kabayan), Lutab, Karao, Bokkod, Acupan, Kafagway (now Baguio City), Benguet (now La Trinidad), Mankayan, Lepanto were popular Igorot settlements during the Spanish times.
