Hardware Engineer [Electrical]

Executive search firm Monroe Consulting Group Philippines is recruiting on behalf of a multinational motorcycle manufacturing company, produces high-performance electric motorcycles. The company is located in Biñan/Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Philippines.

Job summary:
The company is seeking a skilled Hardware Engineer to assist in completing several PCBA designs, followed by prototype testing and validation, leading up to the durability phase of development. The role involves working on three embedded designs and several side projects with the existing team. Responsibilities include completing schematics, conducting design reviews, and auditing component selection. The engineer will collaborate with layout engineers for PCBA fabrication design and work with prototype shops to develop prototypes. Upon receipt of prototypes, the engineer will test and evaluate the functionality and quality of the boards, identify necessary updates for a second revision, and release to the next phase of development. The ideal candidate enjoys applying new technologies to improve products and can effectively track down details required to resolve tasks successfully.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design schematics and layouts for PCBA's in automotive embedded systems for electric motorcycle vehicle control and battery management.
  • Select electrical components and evaluate critical circuitry for both digital and power on boards.
  • Develop power electronics for embedded systems using test-driven development to meet project performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to fabricate and assemble PCBA's.
  • Perform bring-up, debugging, and testing of power and electrical systems, including functional testing of circuits, evaluating power supplies, communication lines, and critical nets, and benchmarking functionality at high, low, and RMS limits.
  • Integrate boards into systems and assist with systems functional testing.
  • Conduct DFMEA's on board designs and FuSa evaluation.
  • Communicate software design requirements, with a hands-on approach to test and debug power and functional test systems in support of software QA.
  • Participate in peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications.
  • Work with component vendors to qualify parts that meet system architecture needs.
  • Mentor other engineers in electrical design and embedded board development.


Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6-10 years of experience in electrical board design.
  • Hands-on debug experience with embedded hardware and PCBA designs.
  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design for power electronics.
  • Preferred experience in incorporating EV power electronics with automotive powertrain systems.
  • Strong familiarity with power electronics architectures and test planning
  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting
  • Proven experiences contributing to power electronics packaging design in harsh environments.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, & peer review
  • Excellent knowledge of CAN communication interfaces and hardware subsystems, J1939
  • Problem solving and process-oriented design test and document is essential.
  • Proficiency debugging embedded software systems. Familiarity with UART, JTAG, lab equipment
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with supplier relationships and test report performance verifications
  • Excellent team communication skills
  • Knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for components, informing cost evaluations.
  • Excellent understanding of AC power grids
  • Diligent, reliable, and tenacious
  • Ability to travel as required (~10%) either domestically or internationally.
