Tom and Diane Palmeri first met at a remote hospital in the mountains of South Vietnam in 1968. Tom was the administrator when Diane Gronstal came to work there as a nurse. They were married in 1969 and lived near Philadelphia for the next few years where they were foster parents for teenagers.
