The Jade Vine - Manila, Philippines

In 1960, the Jade Vine opened as a coffee shop of five tables along M.H. Del Pilar. Its popularity quickly spread and the place could hardly accommodate its daily lunch time habitués. It moved to its present site at United Nations Ave., formerly Isaac Peral St. in 1963. Little as it known that Jade Vine was one of the first restaurants to give nutrition graduates a break in the restaurant field. It is also has the distinction of being the first restaurant in Manila to serve daily smorgasbord, a practice which still continues to this day. In April 1972 Jade Vine opened its first cafeteria and Executive Lounge at the penthouse of the Rico House in Makati. Security Printing Plant, Mint and Gold Refinery, World Health Organizations and the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Jade Vine also once opened a Dietary Unit that served the patients of the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital. With the Ermita district being developed in 1976 by the Department of Tourism as part of the tourist belt, Jade Vine expanded its operations by opening up a 24-room Executive Inn catering to foreign and local tourists traveling on a budget. It subsequently added 10 more rooms in 1998 to meet the increased demands for hotel rooms. Moreover, the banquet facilities were expanded to accommodate 300 persons, making Jade Vine an ideal place for wedding receptions, seminars, business meetings and the like.
