Upon receiving an architectural degree from University of Santo Thomas, he eventually took the licensure examination wherein he was Fourth Place at the Professional Regulation Commission for Architects, Philippines in 1977. Arlen began his professional career in Manila even at his early age. In 1974, he was involved as a project architect for Leandro V. Locsin & Associates in the design, planning and implementation of the Philippine Plaza Hotel, the Philippine Center for International Trade and Exhibitions, National Arts Center of the Philippines and the upgrading of the Manila Hotel.
He moved to Hong Kong in 1978 for Dale Keller & Associates and later was involved as a project designer for Wong & Tung International Limited in the architectural and interior design
In 1985, Arlen De Guzman became the associate and design director of Hirsch/Bedner and Associates (HK) Ltd. His prestigious projects included the Beijing Hotel VIP Tower and the renovation of the West Tower. Arlen had also completed several projects such as the deluxe residential apartments for Mr. Kwee Liong Tek in Singapore and Mr. Masao Sen in Hong Kong; renovation of the Asia Hotel in Happy Valley, Regency Hyatt Delhi and Sheraton Hotel; offices in Tokyo as well as the renovation of the Presidential suite, guest suites and typical guest rooms of the Manila Peninsula and the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati.
He established his own Design firm in Manila in 1995. His prestigious projects are as follows: Presidential & Junior Suites of the Heritage Hotel-Manila; MARRIOTT Hotel Cebu; Renovation of the Traders Hotel-Manila; Renovation of Manila Prince Hotel; Presidential Suites of Hotel Inter Continental-Manila; Renovation of Century Park-Sheraton-Manila; Gedung Pasaraya Theatre in Indonesia; Pan Pacific Hotel-Manila; Powerplant Mall at Rockwell, Makati; The Palms Country Club and Bellevue Hotel at Filinvest, Alabang; Citywalk 2 Bowling Lanes and Billiard Hall in Eastwood City; Condominiums such as Alpha Grandview, Oriental Gardens and the upcoming Joya Lofts and Towers at Rockwell Center.

Arlen De Guzman has developed a distinctive architecture and interior design committed to the creation and enrichment of a momentous sense of place.
